Stitches
was established in 1990 in the belief that although medicine
is a serious business, it is best delivered with regular doses of
smiles and laughter. Published bimonthly, Stitches is written
predominantly by doctors for doctors, and believes that being a doctor
is not just about patients and nurses, hospitals and clinics, but
encompasses so much more.
Stitches:
- Helps physicians manage the stresses of medical practice by prescribing doses of humour;
- Reminds physicians that their work can be enjoyable and rewarding;
- Stimulates and engages physicians by inviting them to tell their personal stories;
- Treats physicians as human beings and not just as professionals or consumers; and
- Is a magazine that physicians want to read, rather than one they feel they should read.
Stitches readers also include a loyal and expanding group of
non-physicians, many of who found the magazine in waiting rooms and
requested their own subscriptions. And Stitches has also developed a
following internationally, with subscribers in the United States and
elsewhere.
